Today's Best Moment 1/23/12

My favorite moment today:

Driving home from Walmart, and the sun decides to start shining.  All (okay, it was just a trace) the snow is melting as we're driving along and all of a sudden I hear two little voices just giggling away.  I look in the rearview mirror and see Avery and Rylan just staring at each other and taking turns laughing.  Then, as if this moment couldn't get any better, Barefoot Blue Jean Night comes on the radio.  Life is great!

2012: Here At Last (Plus a Couple of Weeks)

Christmas 2011 has come and gone.  So has New Years 2012.  I have yet to blog on any happenings since before Christmas.  I absolutely will-or perhaps just post some pictures.  I'm sure most everyone will agree when I wonder: Where has the first half of January gone?  Knowing that we are less than a month away from Valentines Day, I decided it's probably time to add my first blog for the new year.  I apologize for the long vacation I have taken from blogging.  However, I keep telling myself it's not about the quantity of posts; it's the quality of the content.  Again, this is what I repeatedly am telling myself.

Keeping busy has continued to be the norm around the Unruh household.  This current week is our week of doctor's appointments.  We went to Wichita yesterday for Avery's latest appointment, and on Wednesday, Rylan will get to show off his mean, lean (almost) 6 month self to Dr. Thomas.  At this appointment, Rylan should get the green light to start enjoying some solids at mealtime.  Poor little guy has been ready for awhile.  Everytime we sit down for dinner, he starts squirming and hollering until someone will hold him and he can try to grab the food off our plates.  Thanks to Gramps, Mommy received a Baby Bullet Blender for Christmas, so I am pumped to get that out and start whipping up some food for our little guy.

We have been doing our best to enjoy the warmer weather.  We went out for a walk yesterday after we got back in town.  It must have been a lot warmer in Wichita than Mac.  It seemed like such a great idea until we got outside because it turned out to be a very short and brisk walk!

We also made it back to the safe, duck and geese-free playground a couple of weeks ago.

Avery is now very excited about getting a bike.  She has pretty well outgrown her tricycle and so now when we go on our walks, she would REALLY love to have a big girl bike.  We have been keeping an eye out so we can pick one up for her for this spring.  In the meantime, we will continue to have wishful thinking at Dick's Sporting Goods.

I know with all this warm weather, it's like winter hasn't even started yet, but I find myself longing for spring.  It's always been a toss up between spring and fall as to which is my favorite season, but there's just something about spring that symbolizes a new beginning.  Kind of like a repeat New Years a few months into the year.  Resolutions have never been a priority of mine, but this year, I decided I am going to try to do a few things better.  Keeping in better contact with old friends is my main one.  I have had many friends over the years but only a handful I still have phone numbers for.  My goal is to actually use these numbers to keep in touch with everyone.  I have several friends who are expecting babies in the next few months, and my hope is that Avery and Rylan can grow up knowing these friends' children like I grew up knowing their mothers.

My blog tonight has kind of been all over the place, so my apologies for that.  I'll end with some final thoughts on 2011.  It was a rollercoaster year, to say the least.  A year of unexpected news.  A (half) year of preparing to meet the newest member of our family.  A year of adjustments on so many levels.  And yet here we are, telling the tale of "just another day."  I feel absolutely blessed to be able to be with the kids everyday and watch them as they grow up.  Life around here is pretty basic (in our eyes at least.)  The smallest things are the funnest to watch.  And the best is watching how much these two just absolutely adore each other already!
