We got a new camera last year and I'm not even close to figuring out the simplest of settings on it. But I attempted to take pictures for our Christmas card with it and ended up with a few keepers!

Fishing Last Fall
As much as Chris loves to fish, we don't have the opportunity to go fishing very often. Anymore, it seems it's a once a year trip to the park and that's about it. But we'll take it! Last September we hit up Lakeside Park once again, and this year we (they-I don't fish, I just take pictures) even caught a couple!
Neither Avery nor Rylan wanted to reel in the fish, so Chris got stuck doing all the work. Avery was bummed that we caught both the fish on Rylan's fishing rod, but there's always this year!
Waiting and waiting for a bite.

Updates Before Catching Up
No one needs to remind me how behind I am in writing about all the recent and not so recent activities we've enjoyed in the last few months. I almost dread looking at blogs of others because it reminds me of how long it's been since I've sat down and taken the time to create one of my own. I think it goes all the way back to last fall including Halloween and fishing and other fall activities; I WILL get around to posting about these. At the very least, there will be some pictures. For today though, I want to take some time to write about what is happening at this specific point in time.
Avery just graduated from Pre-K last week. For those not familiar with the term, Pre-K is now the grade before Kindergarten. She was in Preschool last year, Pre-K this year, Kindergarten next year...so on, so forth. She LOVED everything about her school. Her teacher was amazing again (same teacher from last year), and she continued to form new friendships with some great kids. She's already talking about Kindergarten, and she's a little nervous about it, mostly because she'll have a new teacher. She's reading three letter words instantly and is sounding out longer words like a champ. She is truly incredible. I just watch her as the wheels are turning in her head and am taken aback by how intelligent she is. I know all parents think their child is the smartest and we are no exception! This girl is SO ready for school next year. We can't wait to watch her continue to grow and mature into the little young lady that she has already started to become!
Rylan is on the list to start Preschool next year. We are planning on sending him to Angel Depot, which is where Avery has spent her last two years with Ms. Becky as her teacher. Pending potty training, we are excited to send our little guy off to school to meet new friends and learning in a classroom! Rylan is the most lovable little guy. He is constantly giving hugs and wanting to be held for just a few more minutes in the morning. If someone is upset, he is the first one to offer a hug or pat on the back, saying "Ahhh, it'll be okay." He loves "making Jace happy," which usually consists of giving Jace a toy that makes some noises. He is super proud of himself (and rightfully so!) when he makes his little brother laugh. Rylan is a terrific older brother and plays the role perfectly.
As for his role as a younger brother, well, he's got that down perfectly too! He loves to take the toys that Avery wants to play with and insists that he had them first. He likes to knock down her creations that she builds with Legos and will usually disagree with which one when Avery wants to watch a movie. Rylan also loves to lie in bed with his big sister, watching TV before they fall asleep. When Avery is riding her bike, he will pedal so fast to keep up with her. Anything she says that we laugh at, you can be sure that he's repeating everything in an effort to make us laugh at him too. He is a bright little guy, counting to 20 and singing songs from Frozen. (I'd like to meet the kid today that isn't!) Being outside is his favorite thing; he is interested in bugs and nature, much more than Avery has ever been! He scrapes his knee consistently on the day that we finally remove the band-aid from the injury before. We love this little man so much! He is ALL BOY-I hope school is ready for him!
Onto our little guy. Jace is going on 5 months and is still the most easygoing baby I've ever come across. He sleeps through the night, eats when I have time to feed him (which can be a long time to wait sometimes!), and is a happy, chubby, little guy! He loves Avery and Rylan more than anyone else in this world, and I suppose that's the way it should be! They will all make quite the team when he's running around with the two of them. Jace is living in the 95th percentile for weight and is pretty close for height too. Another big Unruh baby! He is wearing 9 month clothes right now and his footed pajamas especially are looking a little tight already! He has been rolling from his back onto his tummy which is helpful at night since he prefers to sleep on his tummy. He hasn't mastered rolling from his tummy to his back yet though, so he lets us know immediately when he's "stuck." His favorite toy is his Baby Einstein play yard that we keep in the garage for when we are all playing outside. He also likes his walker, but is still partial to being carried around the house. He's not ready to be independently mobile yet! That makes at least two of us...
His sweet little smile could melt any heart. All of our babies have been gorgeous and he's no exception; Chris and I have made comments several times about how he could be making us some dough as a baby model. Just like Rylan, he has had zero baby acne and the profile of a Gerber baby. Doesn't get much better than that! Jace has been an absolute dream for us; he is already such a big part of our family!

The Big Reveal!
After a nearly 5 month hiatus, I have finally decided to come back to the world of blogging. Things have been slightly busy around the Unruh household. We have gotten through Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, doctor's appointments, and oh yeah, the birth of our latest baby boy!
Jaycen (Jace) Lane Unruh was born January 6, 2014 at 7:27 a.m. in Wichita at Via Christi St. Joseph.
Jace weighed in at 7 lb, 7 oz and was 20.5 inches long. He weighed exactly the same as Rylan when he was born, but was 1.5 inches taller than both Avery and Rylan. At 36 weeks gestation, I'm pretty proud of our whopper of a boy!

Here he is, in all his glory!

I love how absolutely giddy they both are in these pictures meeting Jace for the first time. They have nothing but love for their little brother and every morning, the first thing they both do is find him to tell him good morning and give him a hug and kiss.
Jace has been such an easy baby so far. He sleeps at night and only wakes up a couple of times to eat. He's awake for large portions of the day and is happy to play in his crib, sit in his rocker, and lie on his playmat. And yes, he gets held plenty too! He loves to eat, and is proving it on the scales. He is already to the 10 lb mark and he will be one month old on Thursday. Not too shabby. 3 month clothes are fitting him comfortably and size 1 diapers are seeming to get tighter every day.
On our way home from Wichita.
Gotta love those cheeks!
Big sister (x2!) Avery loves to snuggle with this guy.
And Rylan loves him so much too. Holding Jace? Not so interested. Rylan will hold him for about 5 seconds and then he's done. He's got much more important things to do, like wearing his cowboy boots on the wrong feet. Or stealing the iPad from Avery when it's not his turn. Or raiding the pantry after we just got done eating breakfast. This guy's not ornery at all. Nope...
It's hard to believe it's already been over 4 weeks since I was getting rolled into the operating room AGAIN to meet another of our gorgeous children. Time is flying by and I need to be pulling out the camera even more often to make sure I'm capturing all the moments that make our family "us." Jace hasn't even been in this world for a month yet, and already he has such a special place in all our hearts.
Welcome to the world, little guy!
