And time continues to fly by. Our little guy celebrated his second birthday on July 25. He gets a little more independent every single day, and this is noticed mainly by the attitude he gives off when asked to do anything. His answer is always "No." (or nope, nah, you name it.) When he's asked why, we of course get the response "E-cause." And a huge grin to accompany it.
Since his birthday is only ten days before Avery's, we were in full birthday planning mode for the majority of the summer. I think Avery was just as excited as Rylan when it was time for him to open his presents on his actual birthday. She made sure her present to him was the very first one he opened after breakfast.
After breakfast, we headed to the church to play for a bit since we were having such unseasonably gorgeous weather. It was a little humid, but it wasn't raining, so we took it!
He adores her so much!
At lunchtime, we let Rylan open the rest of his presents since Daddy was home for his lunch break. Rylan was determined to not smile for the camera.
Opening his fishing rod was the only gift that got any sort of reaction from him. Everything before and after that was "ehhh." Of course after I put the camera away, he was all about everything.
He received these new boots from Gramps.
Avery got new boots as well, even though she still was a week away from her party.
We finished the day off by meeting Avery's t-ball team to hand out medals and take pictures, then asked Rylan where he wanted to have dinner. Guaranteed response. Every time.
Old McDonald's.
Avery didn't complain about it.
Rylan had his two year checkup with Dr. Thomas the week after his birthday. He weighed 26.2 lbs and was 34.5 inches tall. The height measurement was probably a little on the short end. He HATES when they make him lie down on that dang old table to measure him. But he's still tall and skinny, just like he always has been. All his lab work turned out fine and Dr. Thomas declared him a healthy boy. And now we only have to go in for annual appointments, which will make things a touch less hectic around here.
Rylan is all boy. He loves climbing on anything and getting into everything. He picks up bugs without fear and scrapes up his knees on a weekly basis. He can't figure out how to use the pedals on his trike, so he settles for scooting along with his feet. He will do anything Avery is doing, even if he isn't supposed to be allowed to yet. Rylan's favorite part of every evening is watching baseball on TV with the rest of the family. His favorite cartoons are Mickey Mouse and Jake and the Never Land Pirates. He also occasionally watches Sofia the First by choice :) I'm sure that's part of the package deal of having an older sister.
His favorite foods currently are (of course) chicken nuggets, grapes, cheese, "neese nips," any kind of yogurt he can get his hands on, and chippies. He doesn't want his hair cut, and we don't blame him because he's pulling off his look quite well. His hair color still has a touch of red to it, so who knows what color it will end up being if we ever do get him in to see Justine. Eye color is questionable to me. They almost look gray sometimes, with a hint of blue but other days they look hazel. He uses his right hand more to eat and throw things, but wants to bat left-handed when we are practicing so we will see how that all pans out. He is using the toilet 4 times a day roughly, but we are not going to push the potty training at all. After letting Avery decide she was ready and having her trained in a week, we definitely will let Rylan decide when it's time too.
I can't believe it's already been over two years since we welcomed our little guy into the world. I still remember driving to Wichita that morning (middle of the night more accurately) to our C-section talking about what names we liked and deciding to wait until we saw him to give him a name. I sure can't imagine our life without our little Buddy J. As ornery as he is and continues to get, I sure wouldn't want him any different-he keeps life interesting!
